Increasing Access to Strings
Funded by NAMM

Thanks to the generosity of NAMM, ASTA has launched a new program, Increasing Access to Strings.  We are partnering with critically-acclaimed duo, Bridging the Gap, to bring string music to six schools in three cities.

A major component of the program is a research study which will examine the reasons specific groups of children do not participate in school orchestra.

Once the study is completed, a paper will be released with specific recommendations on how to attract underserved kids to strings.  Through the grant, ASTA will produce specific recruitment materials that teachers across the nation can use to encourage diverse groups of students to participate in strings.

Increasing Access to Strings is being launched at the following schools:

Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School, Alexandria, VA

Woodlawn Elementary School, Alexandria, VA

Sutton Middle School, Atlanta, GA

Atherton Elementary School, Decatur, GA

Martha Washington Elementary School, Phliadelphia, PA

James Rhoads Elementary School, Philadelphia, PA
