The next National Solo Competition
will be held March16-19, 2011 in Kansas City, Kansas. The competition is
open to ASTA student members or students of a current ASTA
member with instrument categories of Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass,
Harp and Guitar. For entry into the semi-final round, each state
competition chair submits to the national chair applications, fees and
recordings of contestants from his/her state who have been selected by
either a live state competition or a recorded screening evaluation. You
may find your state contact information on the state chapters portion of the website. (If you live in Canada please click here for your chair
contact.) If your state chapter has no solo competition
information listed, please contact your state president or the ASTA
National Office for more information (libby@astaweb.com).
If you have any questions please contact:

Important Notes:
**Semi-finalists will only
be accepted through the state competition chair’s recommended
list. Applications sent directly to the national office without state
endorsement will automatically be disqualified. Also, if you are
selected by the national committee to participate in the finals of the
National Solo Competition at the national conference, you may not also
participate in the Alternative Styles Awards program or be part of a
participating National Orchestra Festival group. This participation
restriction is due to overlapping schedules which will cause disruption
to the overall experience for all
participants.
***It is the policy of ASTA National Solo Competition that judges
NEVER take part in the adjudication of their own students in all the
rounds of the competition- the state competitions, Semifinal and the
Final Round. If judges' students are in the Competition, then they are
required to abstain from judging that contestant.
