ASTA has just produced a 2-disc
DVD—Alternative Styles in the Classroom—that can
help bring alternative styles to the classroom. Funded by a grant from
NAMM and written and
produced by Julie
Lyonn Lieberman, ASTA worked with leading artists in the alternative
strings community to produce a DVD that will help string educators
explore the world of alternative styles and address how string educators
can begin teaching new material in the classroom.
This DVD is geared towards teachers who are familiar
with alternative styles and for those who are not. Alternative Styles in
the Classroom offers tips on how to teach alternative styles even for
those who are classically trained, techniques to teach in the classroom,
resources for furthering professional development, and even a section to
get students engaged.
