Corina Brito

halfCorina Brito has a B.A. in violin performance from St. Marcelina College in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and an M.A. in arts administration from the London City University in the UK. She has been teaching violin and general music for over twenty years. She also has been a children’s choral director in the Maryland and Virginia public school system.

Since moving to the U.S. in 1992, Corina has adjudicated many strings competitions in Maryland, Ohio and Georgia. She truly enjoys the opportunity of meeting new talent and the opportunity to motivate students to continue their musical growth through her comments in adjudication forms.

Corina Brito has played in symphony orchestras, string orchestras, and chamber groups as well as solo recitals. Over the past five years, her passion for music has led her to explore many different ways to express her instrument, via performances with Irish bands, Tango music groups, and even Gypsy combos. She has also produced and played music for CD ROMs and is currently working on an album of Brazilian and North American tunes.

Corina has taken training from well-known Suzuki teacher-trainers Martha Shackford, Ronda Cole, John Kendall, Carrie Reuning-Hummel, Lorraine Fink and Kimberly Meier-Sims.

Corina Brito’s teaching approach is based on the core belief in Suzuki philosophy that “Every Child Can” learn to play the violin. The “Talent Education” program, as the Suzuki method is known in its native Japan, advocates that talent is a by-product of the environment and not of genetics. Such an environment is created by nurturance, persistence, and consistency. At the heart of Corina’s studio, is a successful Suzuki Triangle made of teacher, student and parent.

Corina implements the Suzuki pedagogy in highly creative ways, often using games, singing and movement. She provides an encouraging environment in which students can develop their musical potential. Corina teaches students as young as three years old, previously trained Suzuki students, and adults. She also teaches students who would like to continue their training in the “traditional” violin method.

Corina Brito is a member of Suzuki Association of the Americas, the Suzuki Association of Georgia and the American String Teachers Association.
