Mary Snider
Mary Snider’s career covers over thirty
years of teaching in the public schools, private string teaching and
performing as a cellist in northeastern Oklahoma. Her main
emphasis has been with students in grades five through
twelve. Officially
retired from public school teaching, Snider continues to work in all
three areas with private cello teaching at the forefront. She plays professionally with the
Bartlesville Symphony where she is principal cello.
Mary Snider
holds a BME from Indiana University and a MME from
the University of Tulsa. Her
teaching experience has been in Oklahoma in the Tulsa Public
Schools, the Muskogee Public Schools
and the Bartlesville Public
Schools from which she
retired in 2003.
Over the
years Mary Snider has been active in the Oklahoma ASTA chapter as
president and was the editor for over twenty years. In addition she has been a leader
in the orchestra division of the Oklahoma Music Education
Association.
In recent
years she has added adjudication events in Kansas and Missouri to those in
Oklahoma.
Awards include
twice ‘Oklahoma ASTA Teacher of the Year,’ in 2003 the
Allied Arts and Humanities Council of Bartlesville ‘Builder of
Stars Award’ and in 2007 induction into the ‘OMEA Hall of
Fame.’
