String Industry Council Board Members

The String industry Council Board comprises officers elected by the String Industry Council and members of the ASTA National Board of Directors.

Dalton Potter, president 
L. Dalton Potter is owner and president of The Potter Violin Company in Bethesda, Md., which is the largest purveyor of bow and stringed instruments in the Mid-Atlantic region. He has been building and repairing stringed instruments for more than 30 years.

Dalton is an advocate for music education and has written and spoken extensively on the importance of quality instruments in early string education programs. Dalton’s active role in the community includes sponsoring local orchestras, donating equipment to deserving musicians, and speaking at workshops, camps and universities around the country. He authored Kitchen Table Violin Repairs, an emergency manual for string players and teachers, and is currently ASTA’s Industry Representative and String Industry Council President

 

David Luce, secretary
David Luce is currently with the Howard Core Company located in Anniston, Alabama. Previously he was the bowed strings brand manager for D’Addario & Company, Inc. Prior to joining D’Addario in 2004, Luce was marketing development manager and string product manager for musical instrument company Conn-Selmer, Inc., of Elkhart, Indiana, where, among other things, he managed the product line of Scherl & Roth stringed instruments. Before his work at Conn-Selmer, Inc., Luce taught music at several schools and orchestra camps, including McAllen Memorial High School, Lamar Middle School, Strickland Middle School, and Texas Tech University Band and Orchestra Camp. He was also assistant high school director at Edinburg North High School. Luce attained his bachelor of music education degree from Texas Tech University, where he graduated Cum Laude and was treasurer of the prestigious Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity. He was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and was the recipient of the Marvin Jones Dean’s Scholarship and the George W. Robinson String Scholarship. Luce is or has been a member of the Violin Society of America, ASTA, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.
