Dr. Amber Dahlén Peterson recently completed her Ph.D. in Music Education at Case Western Reserve University with her dissertation Expectations of Automaticity in Beginning Instrumental Music Educators. She also holds music education degrees from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Amber has done additional graduate studies at Cleveland Institute of Music, The Ohio State University, and University of Iowa, pursuing interests in Suzuki, string pedagogy, and orchestral conducting. Prior to beginning her doctorate, Amber was the Director of Orchestras for Moline School District in Moline, Illinois, teaching at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She has also served on the staffs of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Illinois Summer Youth Music, Illinois Ambassadors of Music, Cleveland Music School Settlement, and Case Western Reserve University. Her research interests include music teacher education, orchestral education, string pedagogy, and music cognition. Thus far, her work has appeared in Contributions to Music Education, Arts Education Policy Review, and American String Teacher. She has also presented at several state and national conferences. Amber currently teaches private violin, viola, and piano and performs with several orchestras in Iowa and Illinois.
