ASTA Student Chapters
Student membership is open to any full-time student attending a public, private, or parochial school, college, or university. Membership in ASTA can be a very meaningful and rewarding experience. As a student member, you'll receive our quarterly American String Teacher journal, networking opportunities, discounted rates at ASTA conferences and workshops, and recognition through our journal, website, and awards program. Plus, you may take advantage of all the national member programs and benefits that ASTA has to offer.
Although there is no fee for college/university chapters, ALL collegiate chapter members and advisors MUST hold current individual ASTA memberships. Please click here for more information about joining or renewing your ASTA membership. In addition, all collegiate chapters (new and returning) must submit the College Chapter Application/Renewal and Roster Form by November 1 each year in order to remain active.
Membership as an individual student has many advantages, but membership in a student chapter adds strength, through unity, to become a strong voice for string music education. Through student membership, you can demonstrate your support for the improvement of string education and performance. ASTA can help you and your fellow students achieve your goals--and you can be actively involved in making things happen!
Don't forget to nominate your student chapter for chapter awards! Awards are presented annually for Most Improved Student Chapter and Outstanding Student Chapter. All active student chapters are eligible to receive these prestigious awards. Nomination forms are located on this page under "Forms."
In addition to the student chapter awards, ASTA offers the Student Exemplary Service Award, designed to recognize and reward college string students who distinguish themselves as active members and supporters of ASTA while in college. This is a great opportunity for students. Students completing the criteria will receive recognition at the national conference and in the American String Teacher journal. Criteria for the award includes: current ASTA membership, participation in string-related activities, assisting your school's string program, participating in your school's outreach program, and service to your ASTA state chapter. The application is located on this page under "Forms."
The deadline for ALL award applications is November 15.
